Maggie Nicols started singing in a strip club at 16 and then was mentored by British be bop pioneer, the pianist Dennis Rose. In 1968 she served an apprenticeship with leading Improvisers, drummer John Stevens and saxophonist Trevor Watts. In the 70’s feminism changed her life and she co-founded Feminist Improvising Group (FIG) with multi instrumentalist Lindsay Cooper. Since then she has been blessed to sing with many wonderful musicians, literally too many to mention. She has been sharing practices of freedom in workshops since 1969 and also compose, inspired by her life as a free improviser.
