Miles Perkin

miles perkin (b.1980) is a canadian musician from brandon, manitoba. a bassist, composer, improvisor, songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist.

his main project is the miles perkin quartet with french pianist benoit delbecq, british trumpet player tom arthurs, and canadian drummer thom gossage. he is a the lead singer/songwriter/bassist of a berlin based band of canadians called coal oven and he leads a montreal based ensemble of 6 musicians called common thread. he has released 4 cds under his name, and has appeared on more than 25 other recordings.his work has been recorded by cbc radio 2 and bbc radio 3.

miles performs as a soloist and is a frequent creator of music for dance, theater and film. he performs regularly with dancer julyen hamilton, and he is currently in collaboration with director armin petras at the statts theater stuttgart past collaborations include van grimde corps secrets (dance, ca), maxim gorki theater berlin, schaubuehne berlin, (theater, de), jens biedermann (dance, ch), berit jentzsch (dance, de).

along with his involvement in projects in the realms of jazz and improvised music (projects include: thom gossage other voices, steve raegele trio, glue trio with tom arthurs & yorgos dimitriadis, sequoia double bass quartet, delbecq 3, lpk trio with philippe lauzier & robbie kuster, peter van huffel quartet,quartetski with pierre-yves martel) he also is a fixture in montreal’s pop/indie/folk/rock music scene (projects include: lhasa de sela, the barr brothers, joe grass, jorane, caroline keating).
